en primer lugar limpiando y arreglando...mi manera favorita de empezar un nuevo trabajo artístico. Mirando como moverme en el estudio y que cosas hay aqui para usar... siempre intentando aplicar los principios de permaculrura cuando es posible.

it all started by cleaning and rearranging...my favorite way to start new work when it comes to art. I really looked at how I wanted to move in the studio and what was already there that I could use...always try to apply the permaculture principle whenever you can. |
Jessica and I are hard at work making a wedging board. I have had difficulty with the clay that was left behind... loads of large rocks that caused a lot of damage and craking. hand building is the key here.. I think. my recommondation is to make a clay body you want to work with before anything... give it a chance to sit and become a bit more elastic.. do not rely on the clay that is here from past people... there is just no way to tell what it will do in a short period of time.. then afterwards you can compare and experiment with what is already here and still have yo clay your own clay you know how to work with as well. |  | Jessica y yo trabajando duro haciendo una madera para trabajar el barro. Empezé teniendo dificultades con el barro que encontré.. Muchas piedras lo que causó problemas y rayas. Modelando con las manos es la llave aquí.. Pienso. Mi recomendación es hacer el barro con el que quieres trabajar antes que nada... Darle tiempo para descansar para que sea más elástico.. No puedes contar con el barro anterior porque no puedes saber lo que hará en poco tiempo... Después puedes comparar y experimentar con lo que ya hay aquí y todavía tener tu propio barro que tu sabes como trabajar también.

Such a beautiful place to work, the sun the ocean and the mountains and tons of fresh fruit to keep you going throughout the day. First thing I focused on was making things for the house...imperative because things are always breaking. there are also things to be made for the flora and pan, like planters and cheese presses. | Es un bellísimo lugar para trabajar, el sol el mar las montañas y mucha fruta fresca para tener energía durante el día. La primera cosa en la que me enfoqué es en hacer cosas para la casa... Necesario porque siempre se rompe algo.hay que hacer otras cosas para flora y pan, por ejemplo macetas para plantas y moldes para los quesos.

Trabajando con parecía que era la manera que este barro respondía mejor pero no tenía bastante tiempo para probar mis teorías... Dos semanas para enfocarme y trabajar con este barro no son suficientes - a menos que se conozca el barro .. y no te distraes durante el días por la vista.. :) Pero aquí hay verdaderas oprortunidades para hacer investigaciones interesantes con este barro. Usando materias locales como por ejemplo zumo de chumbera.... también h ay muchos pigmentos minerales en el área si sabes como identificarlos y usar como colorantes. |  | working with coils seemed to be the way the clay responed best but did not have enough time to really test any of my theories....two weeks of real focus and work with clay is just not enough time..unless you really know clay..have dealt with a more raw clay body before and aren´t distracted during the day by the view. :) but there are real possibilities here to do some interesting investigations in clays. using local materials...tried catus juice... also there are lots of mineral pigments around the area if you know how to identify them for adding color. |
I tried working in a style used on the island...good for selling I hear..there is also a market every saturday that you can take your wares to if you are really productive.... if you can put aside a good block of time to get to know the clay, the finca and the community, it could be a good way to make a living. |
decidí trabajar de la manera usual en la isla... lo mejor para vender según he oido... Hay un mercadillo cada sábado en el que puedes llevar tus productos si eres muy productivo.. Si puedes dedicar una temporada a la cerámica, a la finca y a la comunidad, es una buena manera de vivir.
