hay una leyenda griega que cuenta de Arachne: una jóven increíblemente ábil y veloz con el telar , que desafió Atena misma, la diosa del tejir (pero también de la sabiduría y de la guerra) ... y fue trasformada en araña por su orgullo.

 

 

About Arachne

there is a greek ledgend that tells of Arachne: a young woman incredibly fast and able with the loom, who defied Athena herself, the goddess of spinning (but also of wisdom and of war) ... & was transformed into a spider as a punishment.

this gives rise to the name of arachnids, and arichnology, the study of spiders

Arachne is also the '13th sign', astrologically... the one connecting all the other signs, & which was 'dropped' (together with other sacred myths and figures) during the christian-patricarchal transition toward fragmentation and alienation.

What I love about this myth is that it beautifully illustrates the demonisation of the previously sacred - and also the (very ingrained in our culture) notion that a powerful, proud & especially skillful or 'clever' woman is something evil, bad, detestable or deserving of punishment.

 

Lo que me encanta de este mito es que es un excellente ejemplo de la demonisación de lo antiguamente sagrado - y también de la noción (muy fuerte todavía en nuestra cultura) que una mujer poderosa, orgullosa y en particular hábil o 'lista', es algo de malo, corrupto, detestable o merecioso de castigo.
